Halloween Fun At Coombe Mill

The last full day of our holiday at Coombe Mill was Friday and as it was Halloween we stayed on the farm and participated in a fun filled day of activities.

It started with a fancy dress animal feed run. The animals are normally greeted by a excited group of kids but on this particular feed run the excited kids were in fancy dress which probably confused the animals completely lol.

 

Farmer Nick was dressed up and so was his tractor and trailer.

As L-A hadn't driven the tractor all week she had the honour of taking the first leg on this particular feed run.

 

It was fantastic sight to see all the kids on the feed run dressed up and ready to feed the animals.

Even dressed up TP wasn't to be hindered in anyway from his daily catching of the chickens and ducks. By now he was a chicken chaser/catcher expert and he even had a little dance to assist in his chicken catching, I kid you not lol.

At lunch time we made our way to Fiona's garden where the children sat in the lovely afternoon sun and made ghosts out of tin cans, kitchen roll and string and bats out of loo roll, black bin linners and string, all the kids enjoyed it and couldn't wait to decorate their holiday homes with their creations.

In the middle of the afternoon mummy and JR went on a potion ingredients finding trek ready for the witches cauldron at the train ride later that night.

At 4pm we all met up at the nearly Halloween decorated log storage hut where the kids bobbed for apples, played pin the arm on the skeleton, played musical zombies aka music statues then went over to the field and played zombie in the middle.

Once all that fun was over the children participated in the last train ride of the week, this one was a bit special as it became a ghost train ride.

The very last activity of the day was of course trick or treating, which was fantastic to be honest all the children and adults alike enjoyed participating in this activity.

Our Days Out In Cornwall

Whilst on holiday at Coombe Mill during half term holiday we aimed to get out and about each day and add a bit of variety to each day.

We made our way over to Newquay on Sunday and met up with our friends as they were staying in their caravan in Newquay for the week, well we met up in a cliff top pub and spent a few hours there chatting whilst the kids played nicely.

Monday we made our way over to Padstow, we like Padstow it's a lovely quite little fishing village, well i say quite obviously everyone has decided to visit Padstow on Monday as it was totally heaving.

We had a lovely walk round the shops and brought the kids a Padstow lifeguards jumper each. We brought some chips for lunch and mummy tried her first ever 'miners pastie' she's still not too sure if she liked it or not a week later lol. We made our way back to the farm ready for the evening train ride.

Tuesday found us going to the Eden Project. The journey itself was very interesting shall we say with all the low lying fog on the moors it made driving difficult but we got there safe and sound.

We love the Eden Project it's full of so much to do and see. The boys love it especially going round the rainforest bio and pointing out all the plants and various things like the huts you would find in the rainforest and telling us how different they are to our house.

This visit they also got to participate in some witches and wizardry activities based around the children's book Room on the Broom (read more about it here).

On Wednesday we made our way over to Mevagissey, somewhere we hadn't visited before but where my wife wanted to visit this holiday.

We parked up and walked down into the town and went into the RNLI charity shop, where the phase "it's a small world" certainly came to pass as the customer talking to the sales assistant lives about 5 minutes from us and about two roads round the corner from my wifes grandparents house.

We had a wonder round the the shops and had some lunch in a little fish and chip restaurant then went to the Mevagissey museum where the boys did a little treasure hunt finding teddy bears and pirates.

We then went to the Mevagissey aquarium, where the kids were in awe of all the different fish and sea creatures on view. They pointed at them and tried to call them to the front of the tanks for better views which was pretty cute to be honest.

Thursday was our last day out as Friday was full of Halloween fun on the farm. So we made our way over to Newquay to have a proper look round. Well we parked up and made our way into the town centre. we had a wonder round and looked in various shops, brought the boys school teachers some fudge and grandparents some Cornish biscuits and even met Olaf from frozen, then we made our way to the beach.

The kids loved going on the beach, come to think of it we all did to be honest. The whether was nice, it was clear blue skies with a slight sea breeze. We walked all along the beach, we explored rock pools, wrote our names in the sand and even explored some fabulous caves.

Some of the caves were very deep with dark parts which u couldn't see without a torch or a flash on the camera and the others were very big and high but not very deep.

In one particular cave JR gave me a heart attack (as u can see below), he wasn't scared one bit he just climbed up the rock face and slid straight back down it lol.

Well that was our week in a nutshell, well all apart from Friday which was full of Halloween fun on the farm which I'll leave for another post, another day as we did so much.(read all about it here)

Trick or Treating at Coombe Mill

Halloween is the night that the ghost and ghouls come out to play or in Coombe Mills case children and adults galore lol.

We had participated in various Halloween themed activities throughout the day and the last activity to participate in was obviously trick or treating.

We all met at reception and slowly made our way round all the cottages and chalets so all the children could knock on the doors and participate in without a shadow of a doubt the largest trick or treating I've ever participated in tbh.

My kids like all the other boys and girls loved collecting sweets well all bar L-A who sleep asleep after the third house, oh well never mind JR still collected sweets for his little sister.

We brought Halloween biscuits and this was the outcome lol.

Fun Activities At The Eden Project

Yesterday we went to the Eden Project, it's such a wonderful place with so much to learn, do and see.

As it was half term holiday they had many free activities put on for children to participate in. The theme of all the fun being based around the Room On The Broom story by Julia Donaldson.

Well the fun begun with a treasure like hunt, the kids were given a treasure map, well it was more a stamp collection map to be honest, where they had to follow the map round the ground to collect the stamps.

Once this was completed we went to the Room On The Broom tent where the boys watched some of the animated version of the story book and attempted to make some character hats, but as it was very busy we took the hat making stuff home to do in our time.

Our next port of call in this adventure was the witches and wizards tent, where there was lots of activities for the children to take part in, including wand making, listening to stories, watching pumpkins being carved and making magic potion.

It was fun watching the pumpkin the lady carving them was very talented and had some wonderful pumpkins on display.

Well next the children sat and made a magic wand, the man leading the activity told the children what they needed to do and they listened carefully and successfully made a magic wand.

After this they queued up to make some magic potion. They picked up their little jars and walked along the line collecting various ingredients for their potion like dragons tears, mermaid tears and unicorn tears. 

  

Well they collected all the ingredients they wanted and made it to the end of the line where the final ingredients was troll Fart which they collected up and put the lid on their jars and their potion was complete.

After this we continued looking round the Eden Project and had a fab remainder of the day there.

Yesterday (28/10) we went to the Eden Project, it is a wonderful place if you have never been I recommend a visit.

Whilst on our visit the children used their regular sentence whenever we're out somewhere of "we're starving daddy" I knew they weren't starving but they insisted they were.

So we stopped for a bite to eat, we noticed in the ice rink they sold chips so we brought a few trays of them to share round. When we got our chips, to our amazement they were sweet potato fries and they were YUMMY.

Lego Racing Car Fun

This afternoon we had fun making TP's lego racing car he had for his birthday.

It was really fun I enjoyed it as much as him in fact possibly more lol as lego making was definitely without a shadow of a doubt my favourite childhood pastime.

We were successful today in making a :-

As you can see L-A wanted to look for make up from the Avon instead lol oh well.
